Ospitalita' del Conte Hotel & Spa
We were drawn to the wellness floor here: a hammam, a steam bath, sauna, whirlpool...
Four floors above Via Delle Terme, in the thick of Olbia's old centre, La Locanda del Conte Mameli trades hotel-lobby anonymity for a reception built around a working fireplace and a library. Eleven rooms, each decorated on its own terms, climb from a straightforward Standard Double toward Junior Suites and, at the top, a Luxury Suite and a Family Suite, both fitted with a private hot tub and sauna behind the door of a city-centre room. It reads less like a hotel than a well-run townhouse that happens to take guests, a register few addresses in central Olbia attempt.
We chose this hotel because it delivers something genuinely rare in a city-centre boutique: an in-room hot tub and sauna, in the Luxury and Family Suites, without the building ever losing its townhouse character. The fireplace and library in the public areas aren't decorative gestures, they set the tone for individually decorated rooms that avoid the interchangeable look of a chain property. Guests consistently rate the breakfast and the staff among the best in Olbia, and at eleven rooms the hotel can deliver a level of attention a sixty-room property simply can't.
Corso Umberto and the Church of San Paolo are two minutes' walk, the National Archaeological Museum of Olbia about five, and the Olbia Seafront a short stroll beyond that, which puts the whole of the old town within easy reach on foot. Olbia Station is five minutes away for travellers arriving without a car, and the airport is roughly fifteen minutes by road, useful bookends for a short Sardinian stay. The port is a few minutes further still, close enough for ferry connections without placing the hotel on a tourist-heavy waterfront.
Price: €€€

Dining: on-site restaurant and room service, continental breakfast included and widely praised by guests
Amenities: reception fireplace, library, in-suite hot tub and sauna (top-tier rooms), concierge, bike hire

The room range is built in clear steps: a Standard Double and a Superior Double for a simple stay, two Junior Suite categories for more space, and at the top the Luxury Suite and Family Suite, each around 45 to 60 square metres with a city view, a queen bed and a private hot tub and sauna. Every room shares blackout curtains, a minibar, an in-room safe and free Wi-Fi, but the decision at booking is really about how much of the hotel's character, and how much wellness, a stay calls for.
Parking is limited and available only on request, so drivers should plan ahead or budget for nearby off-site parking. The front desk runs from 7 AM to 11 PM rather than around the clock, and the hotel does not accept cash, so a card is essential at check-in. With eleven rooms and strong, consistent reviews, the Luxury and Family Suites in particular are worth booking well ahead during the busier months.
