Jatika Boutique Hotel
We chose this address for its direct line to the sand at Vignola Mare, one...
San Francesco Heritage Hotel occupies a restored fourteenth-century cloister, part of the Monumental Complex San Francesco, right in the middle of Alghero's old town. The hotel keeps the architecture doing most of the work: elegant stone columns ring a courtyard that doubles as the breakfast room, and a relaxed communal lounge sits under the same arches that have watched over the complex for seven hundred years. Rooms are kept simple and warm, wood tones and quiet comfort rather than period pastiche, with many looking straight onto the cloister itself. It is a hotel built around a building, not the other way around.
We chose this hotel because very few addresses anywhere in Sardinia can offer an actual fourteenth-century cloister as their defining feature, and this one doesn't dress it up with gimmicks, it simply lets guests live inside it. Breakfast under the courtyard arches is the clearest expression of that, a daily ritual rather than a buffet line. The location inside Alghero's historic centre, steps from the Cathedral, means the sense of history doesn't stop at the hotel's door, and reviewers consistently rate the setting and atmosphere among the best in the old town.
The Cathedral of Santa Maria is about two hundred metres away, and the Old Town's main shopping streets, Via Carlo Alberto and Via Garibaldi, sit right alongside the hotel, which puts Alghero's historic core entirely on foot. The seafront promenade and harbour are a five-minute walk, useful for an evening passeggiata or an early swim, and the train station is similarly close for travellers arriving without a car. Alghero-Fertilia Airport is about ten kilometres away. The hotel sits inside the old town's limited traffic zone, so arriving by car calls for checking access rules in advance.

The hotel keeps its room range straightforward, double rooms finished in warm wood tones with a private bathroom, air conditioning and a desk, deliberately understated so the building itself remains the focus. Many rooms open onto the cloister courtyard, which means waking up to the same stone arches used for breakfast downstairs. A minimum stay of three nights applies, in keeping with a hotel built for lingering in the old town rather than a one-night stopover.
The old town's limited traffic zone means drivers should check access rules and parking options before arriving, since the hotel itself sits inside a pedestrian-heavy historic core. There is no restaurant or spa on site, so evenings mean stepping out into the old town's own restaurants and bars, all within easy walking distance. Given the three-night minimum and the hotel's popularity with travellers drawn specifically to the cloister, booking ahead during Alghero's busier months is worth doing early.
